Dean Cardinale Photos for National Geographic Adventure Magazine

During the winter of 2003-2004 I was working for the Daily Utah Chronicle and a startup magazine that never started up called Theory Magazine. We decided to do an in depth photo essay on avalanche control and the incredible guys behind it. Any way, I spent two days (days that started at like 4:30am) with the Snowbird Ski Patrol and the avalanche safety coordinator, Dean Cardinale. (For more on Dean check out www.deancardinale.com and www.wwtrek.com) There were a lot of photos, the final essay won some awards with student journalist photographer associations and stuff like that. It was a cool experience and I think there is still more work to be done, but in the last three years Dean has been busy working on his goal to climb the seven summits, the highest point on each continent. National Geographic Adventure Magazine will be doing a story on Dean and there may be a possible trip to Africa next summer to document a climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Anyway, below are some of the photos we are considering giving to National Geographic to run, which one do you like best?

Snow...its coming

Last year was a good snowboarding year for us. We were a little short on the actual white stuff but that's ok. I was just getting back into it after a two year hiatus in Brazil. Here is a little look at some of the best talent that I found as I started shooting again. His name is Chase Fromm and he was 13 last season.

Step down bs 180, with sick style for a 13 year old I might add.

Chase has had some great accomplishments over the past year. He progressed a lot from the first day that I saw him and also won the Forum Young Blood competition at Brighton.

Any way, it is time to start getting excited and get ready for the new snow season. We are looking to get some new equipment here at Phaction, new cameras, lenses, maybe some video. We are bringing on a few friends to help with video and post production, check out www.JEXDIGITAL.com. Scott has some sick cameras and is a master editor. We are also looking to get a snowmobile or two, it all depends on the "business department."

As a final note, anyone here in Utah that wants a discounted park city pass for college students, send an e-mail to andrewjamesinc@gmail.com I'll hook you up!

Surfs up in Utah! As the water levels get lower and temperatures drop, we still found time for a September surf sesh.
